Patios and Retaining Walls
Ornamental retaining walls can be a focal point for a garden bed or a way of keeping soil back. They can be used to make steps to a landing or a wall to hold a paver patio from moving. Like the pavers, they are installed on a bed of gravel that will move slightly with the frost so they won't crack. We have never seen a retaining wall block crack. Retaining wall blocks can even control erosion and can be purchased to create a stunning background in your landscape. A number of companies that we deal with have pavers and retaining wall blocks that match, having the same look and texture.
David's Landscaping and Design uses quality pavers, which unlike concrete, will never crack or become weatherworn and unsightly. With the added benefit... They can be reused and reset should you ever change or mind about your paver layout.
A few words about pavers versus poured concrete...
The standard cement that is poured for driveways and walks and so on is about 3000 psi. Pavers are 8000 psi or even harder. Dave had a new garage floored poured last year and it already has cracks in it. When a cement pad is poured it will always crack due to the fact that it is rigid and cannot give. Pavers are set in a gravel bed that will move slightly during frost and will recover when the frost is gone. Dave personally installed a patio in between his house and garage in 1999 and it is fine, absolutely no cracking.
